Dreamcatchers
The appropriation of dreamcatchers is believed to have begun in the 1970s, where a watered down version of the purpose of the dreamcatchers was “they are hung to catch bad dreams.” Ethnographer Frances Densmore in 1929 recorded an Ojibwe legend according to which the "spiderwebs" protective charms originate with Spider Woman, known as Asibikaashi; who takes care of the children and the people on the land. Spiderweb charms were said to "catch any harm that might be in the air, as a spider's web catches and holds whatever comes in contact with it."
While we are not of Ojibwe blood, twelve generations of our Palatine people have lived on and worked the Hudson Valley land for 280 years. We make dreamcatchers as a way to honor the flora and fauna with whom we share this land, and to remind ourselves that in nature, nothing exists alone.

Hand-Crocheted Spiral Circle Rugs
Our guiding principles as we craft these colorful cotton rugs are creativity, practicality, quality, individuality, and sustainability. Each rug is completely handmade and one-of-a-kind, made in the Amish “toothbrush” style from repurposed vintage cotton sheets. We enjoy the entire process, from selecting the cottons, to preparing the countless strips, to executing a seemingly random but actually well-balanced and interesting mix of colors.
Reversible, machine-washable, very durable, and 100% lovable, they make great holiday, shower and housewarming gifts.
Chair Pad: 14” diam. / $32
Rug: 36” diam. / $78
CARE FOR OUR RUGS
Hand wash cold water, lay flat to dry on a towel to prevent distortion. Rugs can be ironed with a steam iron if needed to bring back shape and take out bumps. If you place weight on them over night that helps with curling. These rugs are very heavy when wet so spot washing works too.
About Us
We are a mother and daughter team who love nature and all the wonders it holds!
Each month we harvest and forage in-season materials from our native Hudson Valley and use them to craft delicious treats, beautiful handcrafts and whimsical works of art.
By keeping these traditional skills alive, we live in harmony with the passing seasons.

Joanne is passionate about sharing knowledge of the natural world with new generations. She was raised on a hundred-acre farm in Ulster County before plastics; when there was no such thing as garbage.
She began teaching upstate near Oneonta, then completed 30 years as a teacher in Kingston City Schools where she celebrated the first Earth Day in 1970. Each year following she led the school in Arbor Day tree planting, activities and celebrations, and continues to educate thousands of students in ecology, art and conservation.
In Rhinebeck she has worked with the CAC, Trails Committee, Recreation Committee and Scenic Hudson to develop biodiversity maps and with Winnakee Land Trust to promote land conservation.
Her favorite pastime is walking in the woods, then creating art with the “Finds” of nature that so fascinate her.
